Title: BRUCE-MICHAEL+GREG
Year: 1996
Duration: 16'16"
Type: Documentary
Location: Brooklyn, NY
With: Bruce-Michael Gelbert and Greg Klosek (1948-2013)
Camera+Interview: Santiago Echeverry
I shot this video in 1996 as a series of interviews with Bruce-Michael Gelbert, studying his world, the leather culture and his friends. It captures an intimate moment between two close friends - that used to be lovers - but consider each other family, and in a candid interview, while Greg shaves Bruce-Michael's head, they talk about themselves, love and the bear community.
I showed this video with a series of black and white pictures of Bruce-Michael in November 2000 during my solo show called "Espéculo" at the Alianza Francesa de Bogotá and I have never shown it ever again since then.
After learning that Greg Klosek died on July 10th, 2013, just a few days from the moment I am writing this (July 22nd, 2013), I found the original recording, remastered it and chose to post it on my site as a homage not only to him, but to friendship and love, in general.
Greg was an amazing person, a loving man, a gorgeous bear, and an incredible friend. He will always be missed!
