Title: LETAL
Year: 2003
Type: Video / Performance

LETAL LETAL is a Performance and Video Art Piece inspired by the opera Lucia de Lammermoor, shot in downtown Bogotá in April 2003; Patty becomes the incarnation of Colombia, a demented country covered by the blood of all its citizens that have been dying since the beginning of the war 50 years ago. But Colombia always rises from its own ashes, and keeps going ahead.

Patty falls in front of the Museum of Modern Art, the Jiménez Avenue, the Candelaria Neighborhood, the center of all the history of the country, with the backdrop of the Virgen de Guadalupe on top of the mountains, overviewing the city. People are so used to seeing violence in the streets that nobody - REALLY - nobody seemed to care when Patty was falling and falling and falling. Even when the camera was hidden. And indifference feeds violence.

Created exactly 10 years after the bomb of the Centro 93 Mall killed 36 people and wounded 200 more, in April 1993.

Pictures by Sandra Rengifo, video camera by Carlos Franklin, costume design by Hector Mancipe
